The main use case for using Oracle Linux was to save millions of dollars migrating from Solaris UNIX. The use of Oracle Linux Cloud provides scalability and a more accurate allocation of resources. Oracle Linux also provides high performance and secure operating environment. Most importantly, Oracle Linux is supported across both hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Oracle Linux installation and setup is quick and easy with minimal downtime.
  • Oracle Linux provides integrated suite of Linux optimized tools.
  • Oracle Linux patching is automated and does not require rebooting.
  • The learning curve for using Oracle Linux is much less than expected and zero time if you already know UNIX.
  • Oracle Linux does not fully support the open source community.
  • The Oracle Linux documentation for support is lacking and often non-existent.
  • Oracle Linux needs to support more packages.
  • Oracle Linux GUI compatibility needs improvement and expanding.
Oracle Linux is recommended for low-cost applications that do not require much technical support. Oracle Linux is ideal for standalone servers in a highly distributed environment with scalability, high performance, and secure needs. Oracle Linux should be used if you wish for easy setup and solid core software requirements. Oracle Linux is definitely recommended if Oracle Database is already used and other Oracle products allow further optimization features.

Oracle Linux is an open-source operating system which means that it is freely available for download and upgrade. It is an innovation to the market that delivers extreme performance, scalability, and reliability. It offers upgrades that are free of cost and doesn't require any downtime. It is widely used across the organization where we are replacing old windows database servers. It is quite easy to use.
  • It is very easy to install.
  • Stable.
  • Compatibility with Oracle Applications
  • Virtualization
  • It doesn't have any good GUI.
  • It have some bugs while updating the patches.
  • Cost of licensing is a little but high.
  • Technical knowledge is required.
It is well suited for small and medium-sized organizations as well because it is an open-source robust operating system that offers high scalability. One of the limitations of Oracle Linux is that it works well with Oracle products only and hence it is also suited for companies that use Oracle products and databases. Also, it is a stable operating system and the performance is beyond expectation.

Oracle Linux is widely used across the database team in our organization since it is a powerful and robust operating system that helps us in the migration of old windows database servers. It offers zero-downtime upgrades and supports most of the applications by Oracle [Linux]. It comes with additional security by Oracle [Linux]. It is open-source that means it is free to use.
  • Secure.
  • Easy to implement.
  • Powerful performance.
  • Compatibility with other products as well
  • Some bugs are present.
  • UI can be improved.
  • No GUI.
  • Default tools provided by the tools are very less.
Oracle Linux is well suited for medium-sized and small organizations as well since it is an open-source Operating system that means that is free to use and the updates are also free. It is best for the organizations that use Oracle Databases or Oracle products since it is compatible with Oracle products only which also makes this a limitation.

Oracle Linux is our core operating system for all our Oracle Databases. The company uses on-premise and cloud Oracle Linux. Oracle Linux is an open and complete operating environment that helps accelerate digital transformation.
  • High Volume
  • Transactional
  • Mission Critical
  • Specialized required skills
  • Security Holes
  • Susceptible to kit attacks
Migrating workloads to the cloud work better when the on-site operating system aligns with the OS in the cloud (or is it identical). Oracle Linux complies with this criterion.

Oracle Linux is being used accross the whole organization! one of the main business problem that it address is the oracle licensing..and the cost of it. With Oracle Linux, we control the cost through oracle hard partitioning technology. Also we have less support costs as oracle linux is cheaper from every other solution!
  • Performance
  • Database configuration
  • Ease of installation
  • Easy administration
  • Cluster option
  • Satellite option or something like this for easy updates installation
  • Performance statistics
Oracle Linux is well suited for all Oracle products. It is configured in order to work best when you install an Oracle database or an Oracle WebLogic server. I believe it is less appropriate for Linux cluster environment when you want high availability to the operating system layer. We do not find any way to implement Linux cluster like RedHat one.

Oracle Linux is used by one of the customers we support, they had a premium license and we used multiple features from Oracle Linux. The main feature that we used is online patching for Linux servers using Ksplice. It is a very useful tool to apply patches on servers online including kernel and we were able to resolve so many issues related to downtime and long hours of a production outage. I am glad to work on this product and continue to work and be able to use most of the features.
  • Support
  • Linux patching made easy with Ksplice.
  • Oracle Cloud
  • New feature development according to needs of customers.
  • Subscription cost management.
  • Ease of use for all level users.
  • Create more awareness in people.

We started using Oracle Linux in 2013 when we got our new Exadata x2.
  • One place for all Yum Package that help a lot.
  • When start using Oracle Linux 7 we face major network enhancement.
  • Technical support very well expert.
  • Easy handling Firewall.
  • Self update package.
  • Create event viewer center so we can see the event in box.
When using a Database I think Oracle Linux will be perfect for salability and securing but as a web developer, I think the link team needs to put in some effort.

It is being used within the organization by different user groups and students. I am also one of the active users using it. It is one of the secure OS and new technology that has been introduced to the new students which address the current security issues. Earlier on open source, OS was used but due to the security issues, we had to switch to Oracle Linux.
  • Support cost.
  • Runs well on Oracle Database.
  • Kernel Security.
  • It only works with Oracle Products.
  • Documentation
  • Less community
Works well with oracle product and have minimum user documentation. Feels like just the copy of RHEl. But it works perfectly with the Oracle database and KSplice feature. It also offers a better price as compared to other Linux platforms having a great support offer of 24/7. Only thing is that it runs perfectly on Oracle hardware.

We have decided to replace old windows machines with Oracle Linux machines. This initially we thought would create some unknown issues, but after using Oracle Linux for months, we felt that this was a good decision which was made then. I can say Oracle Linux has all the features that Windows has and in some in exceeds the expectations.
  • Since it's a free and open source software, it suits great even for small startups.
  • Lots of stable features.
  • Backed by prestigious corporation.
  • Good support team.
  • GUI could be enhanced to match the ease of Windows/Ubuntu.
  • Technical learning curve for new users could be reduced with best tutorials.
  • Since this has less users, support community pages from users are very less.
Very much suitable for performance-related applications or projects as Oracle Linux is very much optimized. Oracle Linux internals like kernel management and memory management is very well tuned to suit high-performance demands. Easily installable and backs all the features which are within RedHat Linux as the main source code was from RedHat. RedHat lovers will really like Oracle Linux.

We are currently using the Oracle Linux 8U4 (8.4) for testing purposes: emulation of the different issues with our software in the customer environment. This gives us the opportunity to reproduce the issues on our VMs and find the proper solution without the risk of making any harm to the client's infrastructure ecosystem.
  • Good support of the different hardware.
  • Great stability.
  • Regular updates.
  • Access to binary files and the source code.
  • Possibility to tailor the system and support subscription plan to the customer demands.
  • Multiplatform support.
  • On the older versions, there were [periodical] issues with a kernel panic after starting the tun interface.
  • Periodic problems of deploying the readymade OVA images from the download center to ESXI and Virtualbox.
  • Slow GUI in VM on older releases (6.2).
Oracle Linux is extremely cozy for its usage as an enterprise operative system for the DB storage server, workstations, and virtual desktops. Besides the RHEL Kernels, Oracle Linux gives the opportunity to use the own Unbreakable Enterprize Kernel (UK), which gives better stability and wider support for the Btrfs, OSFS2, XFS, and the other file systems.

Oracle Linux is a powerful and robust open-source operating system. It is widely used across the whole organization for replacing the old windows database servers. It is compatible with all the oracle applications and it also offers zero-downtime upgrades. The downloading of the Oracle Linux is very easy and since it is open-source hence it is free to use and update. It comes with additional support from the Oracle community that is very helpful.
  • Breadth of services.
  • Strong Oracle Community.
  • Oracle Linux is compatible with other products.
  • Internal operational efficiencies.
  • Licensing cost is high.
  • Doesn't have any GUI.
  • Less number of by default tools for support.
  • Lots of commands have been changed while updating from version 6 to version 7.
Oracle Linux is a reliable operating system that comes with good technical support but the limitation is that it works well with only Oracle products. Since it is an open-source operating system hence the small business companies or even start-up companies can also go for it. It's best suited for the organizations that use Oracle databases or Oracle products. The best thing about this is the performance that can be achieved by applying a very little amount of effort. Also, the stability of the product is great.

We are consulting many companies and governmental institutions. We install and recommend that our customers use Oracle Enterprise Linux for Oracle products (for Oracle Databases, middleware products). Oracle Linux is a free operating system without support, and also is compatible with Oracle products. It has Oracle-compatible packages and pre-defined settings.
  • Compatible with Oracle products.
  • Red Hat-based operating system and easy to handle.
  • Easy to find documents for problems.
  • Security holes
  • Reliability
  • Auto-update and upgrade system.
If you are working with Oracle products, especially databases and middleware products, I strongly recommend using Oracle Linux as an operating system. It has many pre-defined packages for OS configuration; performance is very good. It is stable and consistent. However, you should know Linux is a Red Hat-based system and must be an administrator on configuration. Configuration is the key point of using the Oracle Linux system effectively.

Oracle Linux forms the operating system spanning both our public cloud (OCI) and private cloud hosted in-house and on-prem servers.
  • Oracle Linux works very well with Oracle Database (used) and can be fine tuned for it.
  • Oracle Linux is also does very well in security and bug fixes that may not be available in the open source Linux or RedHat version.
  • Support is the biggest strength for Oracle Linux as it can be combined with the support of other Oracle components (other middleware, applications and database) to get quicker resolution and configuration specific bug fixes.
  • With Oracle Linux sometimes it will take time to get the latest patches and feature upgrades from RHL / open source code base. This can certainly be improved.
  • Compatibility issues when using Oracle Linux with non-Oracle virtualization software (especially on-prem deployments). For example, Oracle Linux with VMware.
  • Issues with applying the most up-to-date patches and bugs to Oracle Linux while running. This should be resolved with Oracle Autonomous Linux.
Oracle Linux is best suited when you are an Oracle shop more or less. [It's well suited when] You are using Oracle Database and other Oracle Middleware components and these need to be fine tuned for running high performance loads at peak throughput. It is less suited when you are using non-Oracle virtualization layer in on-prem deployments.

We started to move all Linux distros (Ubuntu, CentOS) and some Windows services to Oracle Linux, because of the need of an Oracle supported and advanced, secure, and scalable Linux. The IT department is the one that uses most of Oracle Linux on a daily basis. Our HelpDesk, VoIP, GitLab, RedMine and monitoring tools are running on several Oracle Linux installations. All the websites we publish are on Oracle Linux+Apache+PHP, and the ones on ASP are planned to be moved as well because it has proved to be faster. We plan to move to the cloud and to Autonomous Linux in the next year.
  • Apache + PHP + MySQL is one of the most used combinations we have. And it is faster than Windows.
  • Many open-source tools we use are for Oracle Linux.
  • The desktop experience is much needed, so we can move our Windows Desktop users to Oracle Linux Desktop.
The best scenario for use is definitely server uses like web services, microservices, network monitoring, databases, and websites. I think that desktop for enterprise users on Oracle Linux is not the best option. It lacks some of Windows characteristics like Active Directory Group Policy Objects, and plug and play compatibility with printers and scanners.
